How To Find the Right Baccalaureate Program Schools

Choosing the best school for your baccalaureate program is a challenge; here are five steps to make it simpler.

If you are planning to enroll in a baccalaureate program, you first need to find the best school for you. Here are five steps to make your task easier.

  1. Send your scores. If you’ve taken a standardiserad or placement test, most testing administrators allow you to automatically send your official scores to several schools.
  2. Seek related scholarships. Applying for scholarships related to your career path may also help point you in the direction of the best school for your chosen degree.
  3. Be realistic about the cost. No one wants to graduate with more student loan debt than they can afford, so choose a school in keeping with your budget.
  4. Consider your main career choice and a fall-back. Choose a school that is great for your major area of study, but also one that offers other quality degree programs. Many freshmen change their major area of study.
  5. Location is important, not only in real estate, but also in education. Choose a school in an area where you can be comfortable and at ease, so you can focus on your studies.

5 Things You Should Know About Baccalaureate Programs

Applying to university programs can be daunting. Here are five basic facts to understand before you begin the process.
Before you begin your university applications, here are five things you should understand about baccalaureate programs.

1. “Baccalaureate” means different things in different locations. In North American countries, Belgium, and Spain, baccalaureate refers to a 4-year, post-secondary degree, or Bachelor’s Degree. In France and Romania, and the “International Baccalaureate,” it refers to the four years of secondary education, often called high school in the US and A-level in the UK. The English, Welsh, and Tunisian Baccalaureate refers to a performance measure after secondary school, and before university.
2. Baccalaureate programs are almost always a four-year, serious educational commitment.
3. For international students, you may successfully complete a secondary school baccalaureate program, for example in France (usually for students age 14-19 years), then study abroad, for example in Belgium, and complete a post-secondary baccalaureate program (usually for students age 18-23 years or returning adult students).
4. If you aren’t sure you can commit to a four-year post-secondary baccalaureate program, you can earn your associate’s degree (two-year degree) first, and later transfer to another institution or program.
5. Baccalaureate programs transfer fairly well between schools (far better than individual course credits); however, always check with the institution you are transferring to before making final plans.
